Toyota Repair: timing belt replacement on a 1996 camry, timing belt replacement, rubber hose

Question
The repair book says to unhook the negative lead
to the battery prior to starting the job. The book
also states that if the battery lead is unhooked for
a certain period of time the airbag needs to be
reset by the dealer. This of course would negate the labor cost savings derived from doing it myself. Is there a way around this?

Thanks,

James

Answer
Hello James, welcome to my expert page.
Yes there is a way, don't disconnect the battery but make sure the terminal with the large white wire on the alternator can not touch any metal part, there should be a plastic protector on the terminal, if not crefully remove the wire and put a piece of rubber hose over it so it can't short to ground.
