Toyota Repair: Battery/Electrical Question, mazda mx 6, starter battery

Question
Ok, I don't own a toyota, I own a Mazda. BUT, there is no expert specified for the Mazda area. So I'm hoping you can help me out, since I think my problem is kind of a generic car problem that could happen to any car. I have a '91 Mazda MX-6. Earlier this winter, my car wouldn't start. Before that, the battery light and tail light warning light (don't know if this detail has anything to do with it, but might as well include everything) had been coming on when I started the car, but as soon as I revved the engine, it would go off. When the car wouldn't start, I had it jump started by the towing guy, and drove it to the mechanic. They checked the alternator, starter, battery, and diagnosed a bad battery cable. 4 weeks later, same problem with the car not starting, they checked alternator, starter, and diagnozed a bad battery and replaced that. The battery light STILL comes on about 2 times a week, when I start the car, and when I rev the engine, the light goes off.

My question is: is this normal for the battery light to come on like this (several times it's come on when it's very cold in the morning)? Do I have a major electrical problem on my hands? (Hopefully you can help me since I don't have the type of car for which you usually answer questions.)

Thank you for your time !

Answer
Hello Susie, welcome to my expert page.
I know they checked the alternator etc. but this light coming on indicates a problem with the alternator, maybe intermittent, maybe it checks ok when they test it, I don't know but I recommend that you replace the alternator.
