Toyota Repair: serpentine belt, 2000 chevy prizm, chevy prizm

maybe you can help me out. i have a 2000 chevy prizm( basically a corolla clone) with a 1.8 liter engine and automatic and a/c. i need to replace the serpentine belt. how do you do that? i couldnt see what i was supposed to loosen up either on a tensioner or altenator to get the old bely off.

Hello Lenny, welcome to my expert page.
There is a spring loaded tensioner that has to be depressed by using a long breaker bar with a socket I think it's either 17 or 19mm, when you move the tensioner away from the belt you can remove it, you have to compress it again to install the new belt, it sounds easier than it is, if you need an illustration send me an email address and I can mail it to you.
