Toyota Repair: electric windows, master switch, auto light

Question
Hi Ted,
I have a 1998 Corolla LE 4 door. I put the driver's window down and now it won't come up, and the "auto" light stays on which I've never noticed before. All other windows and locks are working from the controller, except the driver's window. Any ideas? The car only has 28000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained by the dealer and has been problem free up til now.

               Thanks in advance,

Answer
Hello Stephen, welcome to my expert page.
The most common problem is the window master switch in the left armrest, this part is not cheap, try replacing it, the other problems could be a bad motor or a stuck window regulator, is there any noise at all when you press the switch? If not replace the master switch.
If you want to try eliminating the motor as the source of the problem remove the door panel and disconnect the motor connector, it's the one with a red and a green wire, try applying battery voltage to one side and ground the other one, if nothing happens reverse the polarity if still nothing happens the motor is bad.
