I have just purchased a 1991 Toyota Previa 2.4 GL (UK spec) which is in very good order except that the large rear sunroof does not open electrically. If the switch is operated I hear the motor but the sunroof does not open, however the sunroof does slide open manually (and if you go fast enough it opens by itself) How can I access the cables or whatever is up there to try and fix it?

The sunroof cable or cables are broken, this is a major repair and requires the entire headliner to be removed to get access to the rails amd then remove the sunroof track assembly to replace the cables, better try to find a shop or dealer that can do this, it won't be cheap either, sorry, bad news indeed.
