Question -
i have an 89 toyota pickup that i have just bought and replced the alternater in it i had it running at first once i was done the it wouldn't start the next day so i thought i flooded it but that wasn't the case since it won't start and i do get spark to the distributer cap i just have not checked the rest of the ignition system and i'm thinking on doing a full tune up on  it i want to know if that might fix the problem
Answer -
Please be more clear, the first line says "my 84 toyota pickup" but in the paragraph it says it's an 89, also let me know if ir is a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. At this point a tune up including distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs may help and again maybe not, you could have lost fuel pressure due to a bad fuel pump.

Answer
Thank you for the reply, in that case go ahead and do the tune up, while you are doing it I suggest that after you remove the spark plugs you check the engine compression on all cylinders, this should be about 180 psi, this is a good indication that the engine has no major conbustion leaks.
