Tractor Repair: Massey Harris 44 funny noises, massey harris 44, new homestead

Question
Dear Sir....I have just recently purchased a Massey Harris 44 gas tractor, the year is 1951 or 1952.
It was running good when I had i delivered to our new homestead in Manitoba, Canada. After  an hour or so of trying it out on the farm, basically driving up and down the fields, this is my first tractor and it took a little getting used to, I stopped it and as it was cooling down i heard very loud noises of water trickling, it went on for a minute or so. I checked the oil and found it was low, and there was drippings of oil on the grass under the center of the engine.  I couldn't see any obvious leaking of oil or water anywhere on the engine or underneath but the sounds didn't seem good as it was loud. I filled up the oil as it was below the second mark, but I haven't  started it again as I am afraid I may have cracked the heads or block.....please help if possible it would be greatly appreciated as we have only finished paying for this tractor and I'm scared it is broken already...This weekend I will go out again and check for any water in the oil and check all the fluid
levels, but I think I'll wait to try starting it again until I'm sure I won't damage it or what I need to do to test for a problem... I have good mechanical abilities, but I'm not a mechanic and don't have all the tools to work on it, I may have to find someone who can work on tractors in my area...I have been searching the Internet to try and find solutions and nothing is very clear...thank you for your help with my family and our farm...lee

Answer
I don't think there's much you can do except run it again to see what happens once you are sure the radiator is full, the engine oil is full, and there's no water in the oil.  Watch the oil pressure and water temp gauges while you run it, and try to determine where the oil is dripping from.  Other than an oil leak, there may not be anything actually wrong.  If it didn't overheat while you were running it, nothing should have cracked.  My old Cockshutt and Farmall tractors make loud trickling noises for awhile after shutting them off, and it's just oil draining back from the engine and filter into the oil pan.  With the radiator full, look into the filler neck with the engine running and see if there are any bubbles that keep coming to the surface.  If not, then the head and head gasket should be OK.  If there is no water in the oil, then the block should be OK also.
