Tractor Repair: Farmall C front end, farmall c, case ih dealer

Question
I have a narrow front end on my C and it is leaking oil between the front tires. Is there a seal or gasket in the steering worm gear area that needs replaced?  Also how do I go about jacking the front end up to disassemble or to take the front tires off so I can paint the rims? I don't think I can put a jack on the oil pan.

Thanks, Brett

Answer
There is a seal and a gasket on the bottom of the steering box.  You can see a breakdown of the parts and get the part numbers by going to caseih.com and select parts and services, then click on search for parts.  Type Farmall C in the model search box and click search.  Go to the chassis section and select steering mechanism.  You will be able to look up parts just like a Case IH dealer and can print the pictures if you want.

No, don't try to lift it by lifting on the oil pan, you will only damage the pan.  Go farther back under the clutch housing and put a jack under there.  You will be more in the middle of the tractor, but the rear end should be heavier than the front end so it won't be a problem.  Lock the brakes and chock the rear wheels for safety.
