Tractor Repair: Case mxm 175 wont shift, solenoid valves, transmission failure

Question
I bought a 2003 MXM 175 with 4000 hours worked. First time we tried it
gear shifting involved a 1-2 seconds lag between changes and very jerky.
We replaced the 2 transmission filters and the 100 litres of oil. The
problem persisted so I read in the manual about the clutch calibration.
After 10 minuted of ploughing (to warm up the tran oil) the "Transmission
filter blocked or partialy blocked" indicator started flashing. Did the
calibration anyway, worked from the first try... shiftinging became
superb.
Worked for a day with the indicator still flashing.
When on road today it started to change 2 gears at a time. (1-3-5-7-9 etc.
worked; 2-4-6-8... wheren't engaged).
After 15-20 minutes no change worked. It stood only in 7th (tje start
gear). Auto shifting also didn't work. It's like the buttons for shifting
or aut shift aren't connected.
Sorry for the long speech and hope you can help.

Thank you very much,
Andrew

Answer
It sounds like you may have more than one problem.  The filter light flashing even after changing filters could be caused by a faulty filter restriction sensor, or a shorted wire.  It should not be related to the shifting problem.  Because the powershift is controlled by a computer module, I would need to know if there are any fault codes stored in the transmission controller.  There could be a failure of one of the transmission control solenoid valves, a problem in the wiring, or an internal transmission failure.  The first thing to check would be the electrical harness connectors under the platform.  There is a floor panel that can be removed to gain access to these connectors.  MXM tractors frequently have problems with poor connections under the cab floor.  Unscrew the connectors and pull them apart and look for corrosion on the pins, or pins that are pushed back inside the plug and don't stick out far enough to make contact.  Without knowing the transmission fault codes (if any) there is no way to know where else to look for the problem.
