Tractor Repair: international495 farm tractor, clutch adjustment, clutch release

Question
this tractor when put in gear and let up on the clutch sometimes does not engage till you reach down and pull the pedal up a little more. have lubed all the fittings the return spring seems to be ok was wondering if clutch needs adjusted. If this needs to be adjusted how do you adjust it?

Answer
On these models, the clutch release bearing has no free travel and you check the clutch adjustment by lifting up on the clutch pedal.  You should be able to lift the pedal up at least a  couple of inches higher than it normally is in the released position.  If you can't lift it higher, adjust the length of the rod between the pedal and the release arm by turning the clevis on the rod.  If the pedal pivots seem to move OK with no binding, then possibly there is something wrong with the clutch itself which would require splitting the tractor to repair.
