Tractor Repair: tractor wont start, fuel hoses, starter fluid

Question
I have replaced the battery, spark plug, fuel filter, fuel hoses, and when i pot starter fluid in the spark plug it begins to start but doesn't, then it just cranks.  the tractor sat for about 3 yrs, but it used to run great.  before it sat all the gas was drained out,  what could be the cause

Answer
Hello,

If it tries to start with starting fluid, then you can assume that there is spark at the spark plugs and the problem is not ignition related, but is fuel related.  Make sure that there is a good flow of fuel from the tank to the carburetor.  If there is, then the float in the carburetor is probably stuck.  If there is no flow, the fuel line and shut off valve at the tank will have to be cleaned.
