Tractor Repair: Case 1070 powershift problem, emery cloth, clutch pedal

Question
hi, i have a yellow Case 1070. recently i am having problems when i start the tractor after sitting over night.  when you push in the clutch the tractor works then kills. sometimes when you put the powershift into "2" it runs fine and when you shift the powershift into "1" it will kill the tractor. if you let the tractor run for ten minutes or so it and dump the clutch a couple times it will clear up and work fine the whole day. only acts up when sitting for awhile. not sure if cold or loss of oil is the problem. A year ago i removed the powershift module to free up a spool. recently i changed the hydraulic filters. it did this twice before changing the filters. any thoughts? thanks

Answer
Hello,

The pilot spools in the control valve for the C1 and C2 clutch are sticking.  When you push in the clutch pedal, it will snub the engine if C1 clutch is staying on.  When you shift from powershift 2 to 1, it will labor or snub the engine if C2 clutch stays on.  The pilot spools can be removed and cleaned without removing the control valve.  It helps to polish the spools with very fine emery cloth if they show signs of scoring or scratches.
