Tractor Repair: Leyland 255 tractor, david brown tractors, rear axle seal

Question
Hi I need to replace the rear axle seal and bearing on a Leyland 255 tractor. How do I remove the axle to do so

Answer
never worked on a Leyland but as long as it doesn't have reduction hubs on the outside of the axle (like on David brown tractors)as far as i know they don't,you need to remove the wheel take out the ring of bolts around the half housing, remove any extra linkages as needed, brakes lift arms etc put a trolly or something to hold the weight of the half housing(before removing all bolts) then slide the half housing out most likely a circlip holding the shaft in take this out and a bit of sledgeing.use a drift between the sledge and the half shaft to protect the shaft from the sledge and the shaft should come out replace the seal inspect the bearings if they are ok reassemble i hope this info doesn't lead you astray as i said i haven't worked on Leyland's
