Tractor Repair: starter switch, gasket.replacemet

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1953 NAA tractor and the starter switch is bad.  I order a new switch and I was wondering how you remove and install the new one.  I notice that one side of the threads is flat.  Is there something other than just unscrewing it I need to do.  Thanks JIM

ANSWER: the flat is for locating the switch at the proper rotation in the panel normally there is a flat in the panel to match this way the switch can only be fit one way.however a lot of these switches are can fit lots of tractors so don't be surprised if the panel has a plain hole.
replacing the switch should be straight forward unscrew it swap the wires carefully from the old switch to the new one and refit as long as you fit the wires properly everything should be fine

QUESTION: Thanks but I was wondering about the cover over the transmission that houses the switch. I was told that there is a bolt that holds it in place.  If I take the cover off, is there a gasket available that I can buy to replace it.  thanks

Answer
i don't know this model.i would take off the cover and if your lucky the gasket might be ok not sure how available gaskets are for an old tractor like this but you can always use silicone instant gasket or get a sheet of gasket paper from an auto parts store and cut the shape out.
i thought you were talking about a key switch but I'm thinking now it must be a neutral switch you are fitting. am i right
