Tractor Repair: No power under load, no, power

Question
QUESTION: Hi William. My International B-275 has no power under load. Idles ok except for a little "pop" every minute or so. It was working completely fine till I heard a few of these pops, was low on fuel so shut it off, put new diesel in and ran it again but started to lose power, hardly climb a hill. Cleaned fuel bowl, replaced fuel filter. Bad diesel maybe? If there is dirt in the injector pump would it idle ok? I did notice 1 glow plug is burnt. Could a piece of the tip have gone somewhere it shouldn't have?

Thanks.   Shawn

ANSWER: Most likely the pipe from the tank is blocked try blowing air up the pipe.Diesel should flow freely from the tank.Does this tractor has a lift pump.If it does it could also be a blocked gause in the lift pump you can clean this with some diesel its also worth draining the tank every couple of years in case of water building up in the bottom of the tank

QUESTION: Thanks William for the quick reply. The flow from the tank seems good. I cleaned the glass water collection bowl...abit dirty but no water. Replaced fuel filter. Gauze screen on the mechanical pump was in need of cleaning...did that. Tractor runs smoother but still bogs under load. Could it be bad diesel even though there doesn't seem to be any water? If there is dirt in the injector pump would it still idle so well? Should I run some kind of fuel treatment through or just drain and refill?

Again, thanks for the quick reply the other day!

Answer
it could be that it is drawing air somewhere or there could be a small gauze in the injector pump just under the pipe coming from the tank some pumps have them but not all.a fuel treatment wont do anything for you really but you could drain the tank fill it with diesel to the top and add half a jam jar of engine oil to the diesel it helps free sticking metering valves that can start sticking due to water or other impurities in the diesel. the engine idling ok is not strange as its when the engine is under load you burn more diesel and your problem becomes apparent as the injector pump isn't getting enough diesel but it has plenty when idling
