Tractor Repair: 1466 IH steering, hydraulic pressure, steering wheel

Question
Hi Arnie, I have a 1466 IH that steers to the right fairly decent, but when I steer to the left its like there's no power steering at all. I read the other gentlemans question that had the burnt 1066 and like his tractor, the brakes and hitch on mine works fine. Any suggestions?  THanks Gary

Answer
Hello,

The hitch is supplied by a different pump, but the steering, brakes, and TA are all supplied by the front pump on the inside of the multiple control valve.  If it steers to the right, then we can assume that you have enough steering hydraulic pressure.  The only thing that can cause steering only working one way is a bad hand pump (the control unit operated by the steering wheel).  An internal leak in the steering cylinder on the front axle usually affects both directions, but I did see one that affected only one direction.
