Tractor Repair: farmall super a timing, spark plug wire, magneto ignition

Question
how do i set the timing on a farmall supper a with distibutor ignition

Answer
Hello,

By "distributor ignition", I assume you mean it has had the magneto ignition converted to a coil ignition.  There is a timing mark on the flywheel that can be seen through the hole in the clutch housing.  You can use a timing light hooked up to number one spark plug wire to check that the spark occurs when the mark lines up with the pointer.  Rotate the distributor to adjust.  Some people prefer to simply time it by ear, turning the distributor back and forth until they find the spot where it runs the best.  If the timing is late, it will sound like the engine is laboring.  If it is too far advanced, it will start to run rough and will be hard to start.
