Question
QUESTION: Hi,
How do you change the brake pads, calipers and rotors?

ANSWER: If you have not done them before I don't recommend that you try it on your own. They can be tricky if you don't know how

QUESTION: Thank you!
I have 2, 1984, Saab 900T's and I have spent way more than the cars are worth in repairs in the last 6 months.  One of them was supposed to be a parts car and the other my driver, but the reliability of them has been reversed.  I have been paying an enormous amount in labor and now the parts car is needing the same things, like brakes and power steering leaks and cv boots, repairing...so parts being the cheaper part of the "deal", and really liking driving the cars, I am thinking it still makes sense to try my hand at repairs.  Do you have any other words of help, immediately for the the brakes, secondarily for the power steering rack?  Thank you again,
Sandy

Answer
The issue with the brakes is that the front pistons can't be pushed back in ,they have to be rotated which requires the use of a special tool. Brakes being a safety item, I am leery about doing them yourself if you have never done brakes at all, the Saab is not the easiest car to learn on. As far as the p/s rack, it can get very expensive so if it is not leaking alot, I would just keep topping off the fluid. If the CV boots are torn they should be replaced before the cv joint gets damaged. If you have the boots and brakes done at the same time, likely you can get a break on the labor as the jobs overlap.
