Tractor Repair: tractor wont move, clutch disk, clutch pedal

Question
My brother has a 1999 new holland 1920 4 wheel drive with shuttle shift. With the tractor running you can move the shift lever to all positions with the clutch pedal out,no grinding or anything.

The tractor will not try to move at all, someone told him that the clutch is gone,I would think that you would hear some kind of a metallic noise if the fiber was gone off the clutch disc.

Is it possible that the main shaft is broken in the transmission,or is there possibily something wrong with the shuttle part of it.
Thanks for any help
Gary

Answer
Hello,

It is possible that the center hub on the clutch disk is either broken or stripped out, or that a shaft is broken in the transmission.  If the lining was worn off the clutch disk, it might not make a noise, but would still try to move but would slip easily.  First make sure the clutch pedal has some free travel.
