Tractor Repair: ford 4000 tractor with diesel leak, ford 4000 tractor, throttle linkage

Question
I was helping a guy on his ford 4000, it leaks diesel from the injection pump, under the throttle linkage. I removed the throttle linkage and there was nothing like a gasket or a seal. would there be something internal that could do that? if we removed the injection pump, we would have to get it timed back to the engine, I think to #1 tdcc, correct? I am in college to be a diesel tech, just not that experienced yet with injection pumps. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Hello,

There is probably an o-ring around the throttle shaft that is leaking which would require the pump to be partially disassembled in order to repair it.  There are a couple of different styles of Ford 4000's and depending on the year they would use a different type of injection pump and have different timing procedures.  To answer your question about how to time it, I would need more information on the brand and type of pump it has.
