Tractor Repair: Case IHMX135 will not move, zip ties, zip tie

Question
I have a Case IHMX135 and when the shuttle shift is moved to the forward or reverse position it will not move.  The N light on the dash remains lit in all positions.  The sensor on the switch seems to work but still will not shift out of neutral. Please help!

Answer
Hello,

Normally, the N light staying on and the tractor not moving is caused by broken wires to the operator presence switch in the seat.  This built in safety feature requires a signal from the switch to assure that the tractor can't move if the shuttle lever is moved into gear without sitting down in the operator's seat.  When these wires break, it thinks you're not sitting down in the seat so it won't move.  Pull up the rubber skirting around the base of the seat and look down near the cab floor behind the seat.  Sometimes it's easiest to open the rear window and stand on the back of the tractor and reach into the cab from behind.  The wire from the seat switch is fastened to the seat suspension with zip ties and when you are bouncing up and down in the seat, the wires are constantly bending until they break.  The wire comes out behind the seat near the floor and goes over to the right side control console.  Cut the zip tie where the wire comes out from under the seat and peel off the outer insulation of the wire and there will be 2 very thin wires inside that will be broken in the area where the zip tie was.  Splice the wires back together and the problem should be solved.  Do not fasten the wire back where it was, just leave it loose and it won't bend so much and break again.  If it does not fix the problem, then possibly the seat switch has failed.  You have to remove the bottom seat cushion to get to it, and it is pop riveted in place on the seat pan.
