Tractor Repair: Allis chalmer B, allis chalmer, hand crank

Question
I have a 1940 Allis Chalmer B thats been sitting for 5 years. The motor turns over with the hand crank. I changed plugs, drained the old gas, cleaned the carb., changed oil and filter, but it still will not fire once?

Answer
Hello,

First make sure that there is spark at the spark plugs.  If not, the ignition system will have to be repaired.  I'm assuming this one probably has a magneto.  If there is spark, then there could still be a fuel problem even though you have cleaned the carburetor.  Make sure it has a good flow of fuel from the tank to the carburetor, and that the carburetor float is allowing fuel into the bowl.  When something sits for that long, the old fuel gums everything up and there could also be rust in the tank that is plugging something.
