Tractor Repair: ford 3000 tractor clutch problem, ford 3000 tractor, clutch disk

Question
'67 Ford 3000 diesel tractor
Problem started suddenly.  Tractor will start in gear with clutch depressed, if started in neutral, clutch will not depress enough to go into gear.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello,

If the pedal free travel is adjusted correctly, then something has either worn out or broken on the clutch pressure plate, or the pilot bearing in the flywheel has siezed up.  Sometimes the clutch disk will stick if the tractor has been exposed to the weather or has been pressure washed, allowing moisture into the clutch housing.  But if it happened suddenly for no apparent reason, then obviously there is a mechanical failure and there is no choice but to split the tractor and do the necessary repairs.
