Tractor Repair: engine block heater, massey ferguson 175, electrical receptacle

I have a Massey Ferguson 175 diesel. On the side of the engine block it has a male electrical receptacle. Is this an engine block heater? if so, Can it be plugged in to a 110 extension cord to warm the engine?

Hello,

  Sounds like an engine heater to me.  Plug it in for a couple of hours when the weather gets really cold and it will start like it's already been ran and warmed up.  Use a good heavy extension cord, not one of those light gauge cords from the dollar store that you use for the Christmas tree, and make sure the outlet you plug into is properly grounded for safety.
