Tractor Repair: Clutch rplcmt - farmall super C, farmall super c, farmall c

Question
I've never split a tractor -- other than supporting the tractor properly, is there any other important issues i should be aware of?
Thanks - Bruce

Answer
Hello,

A farmall C is one of the easiest to split.  If it has a wide front axle, it makes it a little easier.  You can just put wedges in between the axle and bolster to keep the front end from tipping and use a rolling floor jack to pull the front half away from the rear half.  Obviously, a narrow front end makes it a little harder.  I use homemade support stands with wheels that bolt onto the side frame rails of the tractor.  They keep the front from tipping over, and you don't even need a jack.  Otherwise, an overhead hoist is needed.  Everything else is straight forward, disconnect the wiring, throttle and choke linkages, steering shaft, water temp tube and oil pressure tube, fuel line, unbolt it and pull it apart.  You will need a tool to align the clutch disk when the clutch is assembled.  It's just a shaft with the same diameters as the pilot bearing and the clutch disk hub.  Lots of homemade ones out there made out of wooden dowels.

                  Good luck,
