Tractor Repair: Water in tranny and hydrualic lift, water leak, diesel fuel

Question
Hi arnie,I'm not a mechanic but i'm trying to repair my massey fergusin 35 tractor wich I've read your not an expert on,but my question would pertain to all tractors I beleieve,so here goes. I have a cracked hydrualic lift cover thats been letting water leak into my tranny and hydualic lift pump, hence they freeze and don't work, and I'm sure this is not good for either.so I have a new cover and internal parts to repair my pump, tranny and pump have been drained, lotsa water and fouled oil, should I flush the tranny and pump before refilling them?If so,with what and to?thanks so much, Layton

Answer
Hello,

When you have the lift cover off, you will be able to see how it looks inside and you may be able to clean it out a little from the top by pouring in some solvent or diesel fuel.  There really is no way to flush out the pump other than changing the oil, running it for a while, and then changing it again.
