Tractor Repair: Clutch will not engage., clutch disk, british leyland

Question
I was hoping you could offer me some advice.  I have a British Leyland 474 which was made between 1979 and 1981 I think.  I bought this tractor 6 months ago and the clutch has worked perfectly the whole time.  Never hard to engage and never slipping.  I attached a snowblower to the three point hitch but didn't connect the hydraulics or the PTO, I then lifted the snow blower and locked it in the up right  position then put the tractor in gear and drove off.  After a few moments I put the clutch in to stop but the clutch didn't engage.  I forced the tractor out of gear to finally be able to stop.  The tractor still runs great but the clutch will no longer engage.  Any thoughts/advice?

The clutch still has the same resistance as it did since the day I bought it and I've never had the slightest problem putting it into or out of gear, until now.

Answer
Hello,

Something has happened to the pressure plate that is not allowing it to release all the way.  Possibly one of the adjusting bolts on the release fingers came loose or fell out.  Sometimes the clutch disk will stick to the flywheel after long periods of not being used, but if this happened while you were using it, obviously it's not stuck.  If there is an inspection cover on the clutch housing, look inside to see if you can determine the problem.  It will probably need to come apart for a clutch job.

                    Good luck,
