Chrysler Repair: 2000 Chrysler Cirrus, no turn signals, 2000 chrysler cirrus, chrysler cirrus

Question
Hi Roland, i noticed a similar question answered a few months back regarding a similar problem, but i guess i'm a few steps behind. A couple months ago my signal lights stopped working. I replaced all the lights and they worked fine again for a few weeks. After that i replaced the fuse in the dash (although it wasn't blown) and the signals worked again for a couple weeks. Once they went this time, I've had to manually move the signal to make it blink periodically, and now it won't work at all. THis leads me to believe it's the flasher that needs replaced, but i can't figure out where it is.

Answer
Hi Cody,
The flasher unit is located on the rear side of the multi-function switch which is located on the steering column behind the steering wheel. To get access to it you need to remove the cover on the column:
Disconnect the battery
Remove the 3 screws on the underside of the column
Loosen the screw on the instrument cluster hood
Then remove the upper column cover.
The flasher is a square black removable unit.

You might try the hazard switch to see if the flasher unit works for that choice. If it does, then I would suspect the switch itself rather than the flasher. You can check the switch by checking for continuity (0 ohm resistance if using an ohmmeter) between the topmost pin socket of the flasher unit (after removing the unit) and pin 6 of the 7-way plug socket (right turn selected) and pin 7 of the same socket (left turn selected). There are 4 pins socket in that 7-way socket in the bottom row, numbering 4 thru 7, left to right.
So that way you can determine if you need a new flasher or to repair/replace the switch. If the switch appears to be the issue you may be able to improve its function by spraying some electrical contact cleaner inside of it, thruough any accesible gap in its housing. Contact cleaner in a spary can with straw applicator should be available at an electronic supply store.
