Tractor Repair: pto, piston seals, clutch plates

Question
i have a 7000 ford 1974 and i can get the pto to disengauge i have taken off the linkage ab=nd the lever moves up and down is there another switch or lever that will disengauge the pto

Answer
Hello,

No, there is no other way to disengage the pto.  If it won't shut off with the control lever, there is something wrong with the pto clutch.  When you move the linkage lever up and down, you should feel it snap into position.  If it doesn't, the internal spring is broken, or the pto clutch support pin is broken.  If it does snap into position, the pto clutch plates are burned and warped from slipping and overheating.  The tractor has to be split between the transmission and the rear frame to get at the pto clutch.  It's a pretty easy tractor to split, though.  If the clutch plates have to be replaced, also replace the clutch piston seals, and brake band.
