Tractor Repair: power steering cylinder, southern illinois area, johnson county illinois

Question
My power steering cylinder is leaking oil faster than I can put it in.  Can the cylinder be repaired or do I have to replace it.  I have a Belarus Model 525M.  Do you know anyone in Southern Illinois area that repairs Belarus tractors?  I'm in the Vienna area of Johnson County Illinois.

Answer
  Hello,

Most hydraulic cylinders can be rebuilt and new seals installed.  The only power steering cylinders I have seen that were not repairable were on small lawn and garden tractors.  Any hydraulic shop should be able to repair it for you unless there are some unusual parts or odd sizes inside it that would have to be ordered from Belarus.  Even then, the bigger hydraulic shops can make parts in their machine shop so standard size seals can be used.

I have no way of finding anyone in Illinois that repairs Belarus tractors, but you can contact Belarus at 800-356-2336 and they will give you the info you need.  I do know that Belarus has a huge parts depot in Milwaukee, WI that stocks almost any part for any machine they ever made, but you would have to order through a dealer.  If you could have the parts drop shipped to you, distance wouldn't be a problem.

                    Good luck,
