Answer
Hi terry
No fire at the plugs I assume you mean no spark at the plug points, have you done any other work on the tractor just before this time. And it was working before ok.
Have you set the points etc as the manual states? And traced the wiring and checked that they are all connected to the wright places.
The battery is fully charged and swings the engine over with sufficient speed? As this will make a big difference to the starting and the sparks.
The gap at the points can make a big difference! Max gap is usually 15 thou.
And the points should be just breaking open 1-2 thou to time the engine. Have you accidentally earthed the distributor?
Did you clean the NEW points when you installed them as they often have an anty rust coating when new!
How did you test for a spark, its usually best to unscrew one plug put the cape back on and hold the plug body against the engine block so that you can see the spark, you will not get a shock as long as the plug is touching the engine (EARTHED)
---TURN THE ENGINE OVER__? Is the ignition turned on? And there is fuel in the tank. I assume this is petrol –gas only engine?
Try some of these things; let me know how you get on.
Martin.
