Tractor Repair: craftsman riding mower, craftsman riding mower, float chamber

Question
I have a craftsman ridning mower, 15.5 HP. It turns freely buit won't fire up. Battery is new as well as the sparkplug. I checked the wire going to the sparkplug and it does receive power. After trying to get it started repeatedly it would just make an explosion as if very choked and then it just continues to turn normally but won't fire up. What do you suggest?

Hi Danial.
Go back to basics—is fuel getting to the carb.  ? Too little too much? Can you smell a strong petrol = too much fuel. –Check the float and needle seating in the float chamber if it has one, these some time get damaged and do not control the flow of fuel, as they should.
Also is the throttle and choke controls connected correctly and do they operate, as they should?

Sounds as if it’s short of fuel though-- at the carb-- check the flow.
Did you test the plug by holding it on the side of the head and turn the engine over –was there a spark at the plug points ?
You do not say how old it is? And what type of ignition it has if its electronic there’s not much to be done, but if it’s the old adjustable points type then its possible that the points need adjusting –consult the manual for details.
