Tractor Repair: murray lawn tractor, murray lawn tractor, battery clamps

Question
QUESTION: When I try to crank it all I get is one click. The battery is charged, fuel etc. is ok.   It was running fine I turned it off for appx 10 minutes and it would not start again. Is it the starter or something else

ANSWER: Hi Gary.
This very often indicates poor electrical connection some were.
Check all cable joints battery connection etc battery clamps should be very clean and free from any green flaky stuff
dismantle both clamps and wire brush each if they look at all dirty. Apply copper grease to terminals when re assembling.
Then check all other connection down the line to the starter.
What was the battery reading should be 12.5---13.3 if using a meter.
Spraying and cleaning all wire connections wd40 is usualy a good idea .
If none of this works then the starter motor may need stripping and cleaning and the brushes checked. to the manual spec!
also the solenoid could be dodgy. but check the above first.

QUESTION: I have cleaned the carb, replaced the plugs and starter. fuel is new, battery is charged, checked all fuses.  now when i try to start it the solenoid just clicks. Every time I try something something else comes up, now what?

Answer
HI GARY.
This still tells me its electrical --solenoid clicking.
Is the solenoid a dismantle type --unlikely these days .
but some used to have a button on the top that could be pressed ? instead of turning a key.
Are you sure the battery is fully charged did you use a hydrometer what was the reading --or a volt meter ?
Thats all i can think off keep trying the electrical contacts
