Tractor Repair: JD 68 riding mower trans, clutch adjustment, rear tires

Question
I have a jd 68 last week trans started slipping when you would turn and then got worse within 15 min. I changed the belt it was bad, is there a clutch adjustment or is the trans. dead. When back end is jacked up for access I ran it worked fine could not stop rear tires but on the grount no go in any gear. Any suggestions ?

Answer
Hi Ron
Not to familiar with this machine. Do you have a manual showing the drive system --can you send me a copy ?
But from your  description which is very good , it sounds that the drive belt is the clutch ,if so it does a lot of work as you can see.
it may be that the old belt left a deposit of its self on the pulleys did you clean the pulleys before fitting the new belt?
yes i imagine there is some adjustment there some were due to the very nature of the drive system , had a quick look on the WWW but could not find a 68!
More info please.
