Car Stereos: 2004 dodge durango aftermarket stereo installation, chrysler factory, infinity system

Question
i just installed a pioneer 2900 stereo in my durango. i have power to it and everything, but for some reason i have NO sound at all. and ive double checked and triple checked and everything is wired right. also, it doesnt come on by itself or turn off on its own. i was wondering if maybe you could help me out?

Answer
Hi Justin,

If the deck isn't turning on or off by itself, that would suggest you don't have the 12V accessory wire hooked up correctly, and so the deck doesn't know when the car is in accessory/on and when it's off.

Which means you probably didn't use an aftermarket harness to hook the deck up to to the car's factory wiring.  It's definitely worth the $15-20 for that hardware.  Reconnect all the wires that've been cut from the factory harness, and then buy an aftermarket harness specific to your car, and solder the colours that match together -- that will likely fix your lack of sound problem as well.

Your lack of sound problem might also be that you have a factory amplifier -- which would be the case if your Durango has the 'Infinity system'.  If you do, you'll need to either by the Chrysler factory integration kit if you want to keep the amp, or the Chrysler factory bypass kit if you don't.
