Tractor Repair: Loss of drive, speed transaxle, drive pulleys

Re:  Craftsman Lawn Ractor 17 HP 42" Electric Start 6 speed transaxle Model 917.272075.

Today when I began using the lawn tractor, I noticed a jerking when it was moving up an incline.  After a time, when I shifted into third or higher gears, there was virtually no movement unless I was going down a slope.  I suspect there is a problem with the clutch mechanism, but haven't found anything in the owner's manual describing it.

Tom I am not sure as to how the craftsman mower drives it is possibly a belt and if this belt wears or stretches it can cause similar problem to what you are having.
So check the belt and drive pulleys and if need be replace or adjust as required.
