Tractor Repair: International Harvester Tractor, international harvester tractor, matey

Question
I have a 1977 IH 1086 tractor.  When is is not running, it will shift into and out of high and low range and will shift between 1st and 4th gears easily.  When the tractor is running, it will not go into any gears.  If I put it in gear, depress the clutch and crank the tractor, it will go just like the clutch has never been depressed.  

What do I need to do?

Duane this could be that the clutch is stuck to the pressure plate or the clutch free travel is to much and needs adjusting in the first instance you may need to hold clutch down and drive around in gear this should then release the clutch from the pressure plate in the second instance you may need to do some internal adjustments on it make sure that that you have a work shop manual available  matey it can be hard to do.
