QuestionHey i am doing a project for science class and we inherited a used tractor and were looking for some prices on fixing a tractor.How much would it cost for an engine overhaul on a 20 year old 40 hp tractor. Also how much would it cost to get the compression and rings fixed on it? If there are any websites you would reccomend or anything it would be most helpful. Thanks so much for your help.

That is a very hard question to answer first you need a brand of tractor & model to get an engine rebuild kit & the price very so much as does the amount of and type of machine shop work needed I have spent for that any where from $200 to $1500 for the machine work. The labor for rebuilding a 3 & 4 cylinder engine will usually take about 30 hours. This also depends on if you are doing the labor or hiring it done if you hire it done then it depends on the hourly shop rate. The same basic kit for the AD3-152 Perkins diesel engine used in those same tractors is $325 to $400
The MF65 MF165 AG & 3165 industrial tractors for the Perkins AD4-203 diesel engine is $400 to $475
The G176 Continental gas engine used in those same tractors cost from $700 to $900
