Tractor Repair: 135 massey ferguson clutch, massey ferguson, clutch disc

Question
My 135 mf clutch will not release when its suppose to.It keeps on moving 10 to 20 feet after you press the clutch pedal before it releases. What is the cause of this and how is it repaired.this is a early 60's model.

Answer
Hi Billy
That sounds like your clutch disc has something on it that is causing the disc to stick to either the flywheel or pressure plate for a short time when the clutch is released. This could be caused by oil or antifreeze or possibly the soap used to wash the tractor with. We also got some clutch disc back in the late 1980 that the bonding material use in the linings that caused the clutch disc to do that. One of those will show up today from time to time. Sometimes that problem can be taken care of by putting the tractor in it's highest gear Holding the brakes & slipping the disc till it get hot that will sometimes burn off what ever is causing it to stick. If that don't stop your problem then you will have to split the tractor & replace the disc & clean all the clutch parts. Hope this helps Big Dean
