Triumph Repair: stromberg 176 dc-2, jensen gt, lotus 4

Question
My 76 jensen GT has a lotus 4 cylinder engine with 2 side drafe stromberg 176 2-d carbs. the car as not run for 6 months. When I started it the gas came out of the setteling Bowl from a black round loose cap under the carbs

Answer
Hi Reed,

This is common when a car sits up for some time. Either the floats are stuck or the float needle and seat has varnish from stale gas.

You need to remove both carburetors and remove the float chambers from the bottom and clean out both carbs and check the floats to see that they move freely and either clean or replace the float needles and seats. Check the float level setting too.

At this time you should also remove the top pots and check the diaphragms for any cracks or holes. Also clean the metering needles in each piston. They can get caked up with dried gas and corosion.
