Triumph Repair: Triumph TR 6, triumph tr 6, stop screws

Question
Hello i have an TR 6 imported from us. When i start up the engine i goes to max rpm even tough i do not use the accelerator

Answer
Hi Bent,

An engine can not run fast unless it has fuel and a lot of air so the first thing to look at is any possible air leaks and check to see that the throttle plates are closed.

Some US versions of the Stromberg carburetors had spring loaded valves in the throttle plates so you need to examine the throttle plates to see if they have those valves. If your throttle stop screws are not holding the throttles open nor the choke fast idle stop screw and you can't find any intake manifold leaks then you should remove the carburetors to see if the throttle plates have those valves in them. They were a constant problem and often needed to either be soldered shut or replace the throttle plates with plain ones without the valves in them.
