Triumph Repair: 76 Spitfire 1500 wiper pump hose diagram, water hoses, washer systems

Question
Will you please tell me how, or send me a visual diagram on how to arrange the water hoses from the wiper water bottle to the 2 spray ports, to the manual wiper pump hose outlets (there are 2)that are connected to the main wiper on/off switch? Thank you very much for any possible help,
Jim

Answer
Hi Jim,

The two hose connections on the pump run one to the washer reservoir and the other to a "T" fitting and from each of the "T" connections to each of the washer jets.

You will have to check the pump to see if one of the pipe connections is "IN" and the other is "OUT" in which case the pump has a one way valve built in. I have worked on many of the British car washer systems but don't remember the 76 Spitfire much. But they all worked about the same.
When the pump connections both pushed and pulled there was a small one-way valve in the bottom of the reservoir. Some had a one-way valve in line between the pump and the reservoir.

The Spitfire manual says there was a one-way valve between the pump and the "T" but that has to be an error as there is no reason to put a one-way valve there.

Just operate the pump and determine if both ports push and pull, if so look in the bottom of the reservoir to see if there is a one-way valve on the end of the pipe. If there is just connect up the reservoir to one of the ports on the pump and connect the other port goes to a "T" fitting and from each of the other two ports on the "T" to each jet. If there was not a one-way valve in the reservoir gat one and put it in-line between the reservoir and the pump.
