Triumph Repair: Vacuum advance, manifold vacuum, vacuum advance

Question
I have a 69 TR-6 with a Weber DGV conversion on it.  I cannot get the advance to work on the distributor with these carbs.  This year of TR-6, the advance was really a vacuum controlled retard situation.  Anyway can you help me make the correct connections to make the car run well.  It idles beautifully.

Answer
Hi Dennis,

If you have a version of the TR-6 that had vacuum retard only, it was not connected to the carburetor (ported vacuum) It was connected to straight manifold vacuum. The TR-6 came in several different set ups as for advance/retard. Triumph even had the TR-6 with both an advance and a retard unit in the distributor. Then they sent the car through with the retard unit blocked off and only used the advance unit (connected to ported vacuum on the carburetor)

If you only have a retard unit on the distributor, just connect it to straight manifold vacuum.
