Question
QUESTION: I just cant get to the bottom of the misfire im no mechanic and my relying expert knowledge to keep me going. I have checked and changed the plugs and leads no 6 plug is sodden in fuel and oil, intermittently if i put my foot down she'll either want to stall or feels like shes running on two, please help

ANSWER: Hi Jamie,

Your symptom narrows the problem down to only a thousand things, so you need to do some testing to narrow it down a little further.

These tests are not difficult and the tools necessary are not expensive. These are the same tests I would have to do if you had brought this car to me in a shop.

First run a compression test. (a compression gauge is not expensive) (125 PSI up to 170 PSI on all cylinders with little difference between cylinders) (Be sure to hold the throttle open and let the engine turn over at least 5 or 6 revolutions)

If the compression is not good on all cylinders, it is no use proceeding with any other tests until that that is corrected.

Next, tell me what kind of car this is and what the results of this compression test is. then I will tell you the next test.

QUESTION: Hi again howard it would seem that the car is not unleaded so have put lead replacement in and was running better now its back to its old tricks, compression test was all good, one thing i have noticed though the butterflies do not all open at the same time ,ihave replaced fuel pump metering unit pretty much everything but this is like a bad toothache and just need to get it sorted.
Kind regards
Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie,

What is a "Fuel pump metering unit"??? Compression test good? What were the readings? Since you are making me guess what kind of car this is. My guess is that it is a Ford with a 170 engine. right? The two throttle plates are progressive and should not open at the same time.
