Triumph Repair: 79 TR7 deceleration by-pass:, vacuum pump, fasd

Question
Follow up: Today I checked the diaphragm with a vacuum pump and it's not holding. I guess it's safe to say the diaphragm is no good. I am definitely getting vacuum through the hose.

Just to be sure I have deceleration vales closed, what is a good way to adjust the valve on the rear carburetor? As I mentioned in my previous post, I can barely turn the screw with a flat-head screwdriver. The FASD is in the way. Was there a trick that you used while working at the JRT dealership?

Thanks for your advice.

Answer
Take the valve off of the carburetor and take it apart and you can see easily what to do to disable it for testing. It is an emission device so you can't leave it disabled. But for testing it is ok. This way you can see if the valve is seating. Some mechanics made a blank plate to replace the whole valve assembly to disable the ports for testing when there was a problem like yours.

If the Ignition retard diaphragm leaks down it is for sure bad and difficult to get the engine tuned until you correct it.
