Triumph Repair: 79 Spitfire starts but won go, Fuel, carb

Question
Have a 79 Spitfire that was running great then one day I was just
stranded. Told it was probably the carb so we cleaned it. Since then still
does the same thing of starting giving me high hopes then try to go
around block to end up be pushed back by the golf cart. Please help I
miss my baby.

Answer
Tiffany,

Stock Stromberg?   Or aftermarket setup?

If it's the stock Stromberg is the dashpot topped up and the diaphram in one piece?

Sounds more like a fuel delivery issue.   Still have the stock mechanical pump?   You can check for fuel flow by disconnecting the fuel hose at the carb and having a friend crank the engine over while you hold a catch can to see how much fuel spurts out of the fuel line.   In a couple of seconds you should get a couple of ounces of gas.

Do be careful as gasoline is flammable, a carcinogen and all kinds of other nasty things.   If you don't feel qualified to try what I'm suggesting please consult a professional.

Cheers,

Jim
