Triumph Repair: Fuel delivery, psi pressure, fuel gauge

Question
Just got a 72 Spitfire.  It ran fine when I got it, but now after setting a few days, it doesn't seem to get any fuel to the engine.  What't the best way to establish prime and keep the fuel lines full?

Answer
Hi Dan,
Remove the fuel line from the carburetor and lower it into a can or jar and remove all four spark plugs and the wires on either side of the coil and have someone spin the starter. If the fuel pump is working it will soon start pumping fuel. Then put a low pressure fuel gauge on the fuel line and spin the engine again and read the fuel gauge. You should see form 1.5 PSI to 3 PSI pressure but not more. If you have that, then nothing is wrong with the fuel system.

If you have fuel in the tank and you got no fuel from spinning the engine then take the fuel line off of the fuel pump coming from the tank and lower it to the ground and you should see fuel run freely out of the line and run continuously. If it does you have a bad fuel pump and if it don't you have a stoppage in the fuel line from the tank.
