Triumph Repair: 76 spitfire 1500, coolant temp, ventilation tube

Question
QUESTION: completely rebuilt 1500,runs hot.200,210. I have a mechanical temp. gauge. Recored large radiator, water seems to be circulating.emisions check valve and some tubing totaly clogged up,could that cause the problem,or am I missing something.Thermos stat opens at 180.Without it it heats a little slower.I prefer it with the thermostat. Will a new motor run hot please help?

ANSWER: Hi Ron,
First you need to get some of the dye from most any auto parts store that tests the coolant for CO. If that checks out ok change that 180 thermostat to a colder one.

What emissions check valve and tubing?

QUESTION: It is the cranckcase ventilation tube and check valve for the pump.I tested the system for exhaust gas with a leak detection kit,it was negative. With a 160 thermostat the temp still climbs to 200.

Answer
Ron, What do you mean a "Leak Detection Kit"? the dye for CO?
What do you mean "Coolant Seems to be circulating" It either does or it does not.

There are some simple facts, if no CO in the coolant and the coolant is circulating (Which means the radiator is not clogged and the bottom hose is not closing up and the water pump is working) If the timing is correct and the carb is not way lean then it is not running at 200 degrees and above.

If you checked the coolant temp with a meat thermometer and it is 200 + degrees you missed one of the above.
