Triumph Repair: transmission, dumb answers, forward gear

QUESTION: how can i identify if i have a 5 speed or a 4 speed...my reverce is also hard to kick in

QUESTION: yes that was very dumb on my part....1978 spitfire 1500...i found out that its 4..it was just that to find reverse i always get a forward gear and have to disingage and try again and thoutht there was a 5th. gear

An instructor I worked under in a commercial mechanics school once told me there are no dumb questions, only dumb answers. I have figured out how to not give a dumb answer. When I give a dumb answer I just blame it on my design engineer (me).

Glad you figured it out. I think the TR-7 was the only Triumph in the US with a 5 speed box. don't know of any others.
