Triumph Repair: Brake Hoses/Cylinder Repair Kits, cylinder repair kits, triumph spitfire

Question
Howard,

We meet again.

I have a 1974 Triumph Spitfire. As bears come out of hibernation,so to is my Spitfire for another shot at my bringing it back to life.

A single question here; the car has sat in the garage for the past 8 years.  Most of the movable parts have been replaced or repaired.

How often would you replace front and rear brake hoses?  How often would you do a rebuild, (brake cylinder brake kit), on the rear brakes.  For that matter, how often is a front brake kit necessary to install?

Thanks for the info, in advance.

Cheers,
George

Answer
Hi George,
There is no set time on any of that. If everything is operating and no leaks and the rubber hoses don't show signs of cracking use it. However if the car is planed to be used on long drives or used every day I would replace all rubber hoses and rebuild the whole brake and clutch hydraulic system. (use DOT 4 fluid)
